According to reinsurers Swiss Re, Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the coast of Louisiana, USA on August 29, 2005, caused damage expected to reach a total of $45 billion (£25 billion). Katrina was the first category 5 hurricane of the 2005 hurricane season.
